This is dear to my heart given my own twin sister was born with a cleft; I understand the struggles she went through in the United States. What many don’t comprehend is that in several countries a cleft symbolizes a deformity so “bad” that children can be abandoned even by their own families. While the latter is extreme, a cleft poses several medical issues aside from vanity purposes; for such a small cost, every child should be given the opportunity.
